Logan nabs district title in baseball

The Logan baseball team blasted host Cimarron during a doubleheader last week and in the process wrapped up a regular-season district championship.

The Longhorns defeated the Rams 18-5 in the first game and 33-4 in the nightcap, with both games shortened by the mercy rule. Logan improved to 16-3 overall and 7-1 in District 3, two games ahead of runner-up Melrose’s 6-3 mark in district play.

Cimarron fell to 1-12, 1-7.

In the first game, the Longhorns held a 7-2 lead after three innings when they erupted for 10 runs in the fourth.

Logan totaled 21 hits. Park Strong went 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBI.

Logan pitchers Aydin Kotara and Brock Burns combined for eight strikeouts with nine hits and six walks allowed in five innings.

In the second game, the Longhorns scored five runs in the first, five in the second, eight in the third, 12 in the fourth and three in the fifth. Logan totaled 27 hits, 12 walks and 13 stolen bases.

Jace Jackson went 3-for-3 with four RBI for the Longhorns. Izaiah Kneitz, Kaeden Stoner, Skyler DeLuca and Devin Kotara each drove in three runs. Stoner also hit for the cycle.

In the mound, Kneitz and Strong combined to allow eight hits and two walks while striking out seven in five innings.

Logan 12, Elida 0

Logan wrapped up its regular season Thursday with a 12-0 non-district victory over visiting Elida.

The Longhorns stormed to a 9-0 after just two innings. The game was shortened by the mercy rule.

Skyler DeLuca and Mason Wallin each drove in two runs for the Longhorns.

Logan pitcher Kaeden Stoner allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out 12 in five innings.

Elida fell to 5-8.
