A TA Travel Center is being planned to open in spring 2023 on South First Street near Interstate 40 in Tucumcari.
A news release from Ohio-based TravelCenters of America stated a franchise agreement had been struck to build the TA Travel Center in Tucumcari but didn’t state the exact location.
City Commissioner Christopher Arias said in a phone interview last week he learned from City Manager Mark Martinez and from community development meetings the TA Travel Center would be on the southeast side of First Street’s intersection with I-40, across Highway 209 from the New Mexico State Police station.
TravelCenters of America stated in its news release the Tucumcari site would contain 16 gasoline pumps, 10 truck diesel pumps, 200 truck parking spaces, 70 car parking spaces, 10 showers, a driver’s lounge, laundry facilities, a truck scale and two “quick-serve” restaurants.
The release also estimated the TA Travel Center would open in the second quarter of 2023.
An email to TravelCenters of America’s spokeswoman was not answered.
TravelCenters of America operates more than 270 locations throughout the United States and Canada. It is the largest publicly traded full-service truck stop company in the U.S. and employs more than 20,000 people.
The closest TA Travel Centers from Tucumcari are in Santa Rosa and Amarillo.
