Serving the High Plains
The Tucumcari chapter of Altrusa International recently set up its fifth site of its Li'l Libraries in Quay County.
Altrusa members converted an old phone bank area at the Circle K convenience store at 2624 S. First St. into a sunflower mural and library. The rest of the other sites use old newspaper vending machines to store the books.
Altrusa Li'l Libraries provide free books for all ages, focusing on children's books. Anyone can take a book or two; they do not need to be returned.
The other Li'l Library sites:
• Lowe's Market, 105 W. Tucumcari Blvd., Tucumcari;
• Boulevard Cleaners, 405 E. Tucumcari Blvd., Tucumcari;
• Tucumcari Recreation Center, 900 E. Laughlin Ave., Tucumcari;
• Subway restaurant, 118 S. U.S. 54, Logan.
"One of Altrusa International of Tucumcari's missions is to get books into the hands of children. Reading books aloud with children stimulates their imagination and aids in their development," stated Alida Brown, the club's Literacy Committee co-chairwoman.
