Four Lady Rattlers earn all-district honors

Four players from the Tucumcari girls basketball team earned all-district honors in District 4 of Class 3A.

Three players from Logan and two from San Jon also were named to the all-District 6 team in Class 1A.

For Tucumcari, junior guard Alexus Lafferty, freshman forward Caylee Benavidez, freshman guard July Lafferty and eighth-grade forward Kyla Samaniego each were given all-district honors.

The Lady Rattlers finished with a 13-11 record, won their district tournament and earned a postseason berth.

Alexus Lafferty averaged a team-high 15.5 points per game, plus 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals per contest.

Benavidez averaged 11.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and a team-high 2.9 assists per game.

July Lafferty average 6.6 points, a team-high 8.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.

Samaniego average 4.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Honorable mention for the Lady Rattlers was sophomore guard Haisley Huffman, who averaged 3.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Logan’s first-team selections in Class 1A’s District 6 were senior guards Kyra Conway and Reece Goldston and senior center Rilee Nials. They helped lead the Lady Longhorns to a 23-7 record and the semifinals of the state tournament.

Honorable mentions for Logan were eighth-grade guard Desta Rose, sophomore forward Natalie Bongers and sophomore guard Hailee Robertson.

Sophomore Sarah Archuleta and freshman Chantzee Elliott were the first-team selections from San Jon.

Elliott scored 222 points this season to lead the team, and Archuleta tallied 120 points, good for second place for the Lady Coyotes.

The Lady Coyotes finished 5-14 overall.

San Jon sophomores Bailey McEwen and Karlee Elliott and freshmen Dakota Fisher and Addie Lafferty each were honorable mentions.
