Tucumcari MainStreet learned last week it earned a $400,000 grant from the state’s MainStreet program and New Mexico Economic Development Department for the Great Blocks revitalization project in downtown Tucumcari.
“Tucumcari MainStreet is grateful to receive New Mexico MainStreet capital outlay funding for our Great Blocks on MainStreet project, and we’re excited to continue work on this project which is reinvigorating our downtown district,” Tucumcari MainStreet Executive Director Connie Loveland stated in a news release.
New Mexico MainStreet and the New Mexico Economic Development Department awarded a total of $2.5 million has been awarded for revitalization projects in 13 MainStreet districts.
The New Mexico MainStreet Public Infrastructure Capital Outlay Program provides funding for upgrades within a targeted public investment area. Projects must be an economic driver, demonstrate an impact on the local economy, improve the appearance and functionality of the district, create connectors and engage local property and business owners.
“Capital Outlay appropriations from the Legislature allow New Mexico MainStreet to fund priority construction-ready projects from our pipeline and directly support economic growth, property renovation, business development and job creation in downtown districts,” New Mexico MainStreet director Daniel Gutierrez said.
After completion, capital outlay projects increase pedestrian traffic and business expansions by 60% and reduce building vacancies by 70%.
Other MainStreet districts that received funds were Clovis, Carlsbad, Corrales, Gallup, Las Vegas, Mora, Raton, Santa Rosa, Silver City, Truth or Consequences and the South Valley and Nob Hill areas of Albuquerque.
