The Logan boys basketball team went 1-2 during the Plateau EPAC Tournament at Texico after an 83-61 loss to Elida on Saturday in the consolation round.
Brock Burns led the Longhorns (4-9) with 12 points.
“Elida came out firing on all cylinders,” Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said. “We never got in a rhythm offensively and struggled to stop them on defense.”
Griffiths added that Elida (12-2) is a “very physical team and athletic.”
Fort Sumner (7-2) won the EPAC crown with a 72-70 victory over Melrose (7-3) in the title game between district rivals on Saturday.
Logan 61, Grady 49
Logan bounced back with a 61-49 victory over district rival Grady in the consolation round Friday of the Plateau EPAC Tournament at Texico.
Burns scored 11 points to lead the Longhorns.
“We played well in spurts,” Griffiths said. “Missed a lot of easy layups that we usually make. Was proud of them for coming back and getting a win.”
Grady fell to 3-8.
Texico 67, Logan 43
A shorthanded Logan squad proved to be not much of a match for Texico during the first round of the Plateau EPAC Tournament on Thursday at Grady.
Griffiths said stomach flu affected some of his players, and Diego Sanchez also had to sit out the game after he was ejected from the previous matchup against Tucumcari.
Griffiths said his team “got outplayed in all aspects of the game.”
“Have to regroup and come back tomorrow,” he said.
Kaeden Stoner led the Longhorns with 16 points.
Texico improved to 6-3.
Springer 74, San Jon 10
Springer raced to a 41-2 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 74-10 victory at San Jon on Saturday.
The young and inexperienced Coyotes fell to 1-7.
Springer improved to 8-3.
Des Moines 66, San Jon 16
Des Moines stormed to a 29-6 first-quarter lead en route to a 66-16 victory Thursday over visiting San Jon.
Des Moines improved to 6-2.
Texline 78, San Jon 9
San Jon dropped a 78-9 contest Jan. 4 against Texline at Adrian, Texas.
Texline improved to 18-2.
