1971: Three reports of a theft of Christmas lights were given to police within four minutes of each other on Dec. 21. Three households on the city’s south side reported someone had taken Christmas decorations or bulbs from their homes or trees.
Later that afternoon, the owner of Tucumcari Floral Co. reported someone had stolen Christmas lights, floodlights and extension cords from the front of his business.
• Police received a call from West Tucumcari Boulevard about a male pedestrian from North Dakota hit by a car driven by a woman from Albuquerque. The man was taken to Trigg Memorial Hospital for observation.
• The 7A Feedlot was spending $21,000 to curb pollution caused from water running off its feedlots during rains. The project, engineered by Gordon, Herckenhoff and Associates of Albuquerque, will include a dike and lagoon to hold the runoff.
• These teens from the Tucumcari area were enrolled in the Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute during the fall trimester: Felix Anaya, electronics program; Edward Barreras, machine trades; Reyes Chavez, advances electronics; Jerry Duran, drafting; and Harold Rutter, auto mechanics.
• The Odeon Theatre in Tucumcari was screening “Shinbone Alley,” a comedy starring Carol Channing and Eddie Bracken.
