The San Jon school board last week voted to extend superintendent Janet Gladu’s contract by another year.
Gladu’s contract now will expire on June 30, 2024. The vote by board members during their Dec. 13 meeting was unanimous.
Her compensation will be set after the New Mexico Legislature completes its annual session and allocates education funding in early 2022. She is paid $111,300 a year.
“I am very blessed to be at San Jon,” Gladu, 51, said in a phone interview the day after the meeting. “I appreciate all the support. We have a great district and a great community. We would love to retire at San Jon.”
Gladu has been San Jon’s superintendent since July 2018 after leading a school district in western Illinois. She was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Utah.
In other business, the Missoula Children’s Theatre production at San Jon has been rescheduled after being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The production company will arrive Jan. 17, with the play set for Jan. 21.
Missoula typically organizes a play at San Jon annually, but the last one was in 2019 due to the pandemic.
