Two Quay seniors playing in all-star game

Two Quay County seniors will be playing this weekend at the annual Red vs. Green All-Star Football Game in Roswell.

Tucumcari senior Khobie Salvador will be playing on the defensive line for the small-school green team.

Salvador was the Rattlers’ lone player to receive first-team honors in Tucumcari’s Class 3A-4 district as a defensive and offensive lineman.

The green team also includes seniors from Texico, Gateway Christian, Eunice, Hope Christian, West Las Vegas, Dexter, Tularosa, Capitan, St. Michael’s, Socorro, New Mexico Military Institute, Tatum, Raton, Hagerman, Santa Fe Indian, Lordsburg, Elida, Melrose, Estancia, Navajo Prep, Cobre and Tohatchi.

Logan senior Zack Byrd also was selected as an at-large player for the small-school red team.

Byrd also was a first-team all-district player as an offensive lineman and defensive end for the Longhorns, which made it to the eight-man football semifinals.

The red team includes seniors from Robertson, Lordsburg, Capitan, Tatum, Jal, Raton, Socorro, Hatch Valley, West Las Vegas, Dexter, Magdalena, St. Michael’s, Eunice, Cuba, Estancia, Hope Christian, Cobre, Melrose, Escalante, Hagerman, Navajo Prep, Tularosa, Clayton, Newcomb and Ramah.

The all-star game for small schools will be played at noon Saturday at the Wool Bowl in Roswell. The large-school all-star game will be at 3 p.m. that day.
