Mesalands president announces veterans center plans

Gregg Busch, president of Mesalands Community College, announced on Thursday on Veterans Day that he plans to add a Veterans Student Center at the college.

The Veterans Student Center will create a special area dedicated to veterans and active-duty military and will serve as a lounge, computer lab and a location where veterans may gather to support each other and share in their military experience and collaborate on college assignments, according to a news release from the college.

Jessica Gonzales will continue to assist veterans with financial assistance to attend college and support students using the GI Bill.

The final design of the center is being done in collaboration with the leadership of VFW Post 2528 of Tucumcari.

"On this day, we pause to thank the men and women who have selflessly served our country. In an act of thanks, we are proud to announce today the addition of a Veterans Student Center to provide a place on campus to assist them in becoming successful in academic or training goals,” Busch stated.

“Mesalands is dedicated to the success of all students and are developing this space in collaboration with the Tucumcari VFW to not only honor veterans but as a location in which we can address the special needs of our veterans and active military students and assist them in overcoming any barriers they may face in achieving their career goals."
