Serving the High Plains

Health council giving diabetes presentation

The Quay County Health Council will give a presentation next week on how to reduce the stress of dealing with diabetes.

Dr. Lisa Taylor of the University of New Mexico’s College of Nursing will talk about what the numbers mean and how to make small changes with big impacts for those with the disease.

The presentation will be at noon Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Liberty Room of the Tucumcari Convention Center.

Her presentation will focus on how to manage blood sugar with fewer medications. The workshop will be of interest to those newly diagnosed and those who have been working to manage diabetes for years.

Taylor is passionate about helping people with diabetes in rural communities, knowing such areas may not have access to foods and other resources as in urban areas.

The presentation is part of Diabetes Awareness Month.

The presentation also will offer a Zoom option for those that would like to join us over the computer. Email [email protected] or text 575-815-4575 for the Zoom link. It also will be broadcast live on Facebook @QuayCountyHealth.
