A Tucumcari native recently was named airman of the quarter for his Air Force unit in Washington state.
Senior Airman William "Billy" Sandoval, a 2017 Tucumcari High School graduate, is a maintainer on the C-17 Globemaster, a cargo aircraft.
He was nominated for the honor by his superiors.
Sandoval is the son of Chris Sandoval and Juana Garcia.
