Logan returned to its winning ways with a 52-22 district victory Friday at Mesilla Valley Christian School in eight-man football action in Las Cruces.
The Longhorns blew open a close game that was tied 6-6 at halftime with 46 points in the second half. Hayden Judd and Christian Kotara each scored three touchdowns for Logan, and Park Strong added two TDs.
Logan, recovering from a 46-0 loss the previous week at Fort Sumner, improved to 7-1 overall and 1-1 in the district.
Mesilla Valley fell to 3-3, 0-3.
Longhorns coach Dwayne Roberts said his team “played to their potential” in the second half after exhorting his squad to do better.
“We talked about execution,” Roberts said of his halftime talk. “Everyone needed to do their job.”
He added he was “very proud of that way they fought back after some adversity in the first half.”
Among that adversity was the loss of sophomore starter Izaiah Kneitz, who broke his foot early in the game.
Logan hosts district powerhouse Tatum at 7 p.m. Friday. Tatum (6-1, 2-0) downed previously unbeaten Melrose 38-26 on Friday. The Coyotes’ only loss this season was a 52-50 decision against Fort Sumner.
