Wallethub.com, an independent evaluator of junior colleges, ranked Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari in the top 2.9% of all community colleges in the United States and 11th in affordability.
Also, Mesalands announced last week the college’s president, Gregory T. Busch, has chosen to be part of Presidents for Latino Student Success and the Excelencia in Action network.
The Wallethub ranking is based the evaluation of 942 community colleges in the U.S. Wallethub judged 19 key indicators of cost and quality of each institution.
In addition, Wallethub ranked Mesalands second in New Mexico for community colleges.
The Excelencia network includes diverse college and university presidents and chancellors who “commit to making their institutions’ learning environments where Latino students thrive,” according to a news release.
Learning institutions in the Excelencia network represent just 4% of all U.S. colleges and universities, yet enroll 24% of all Latino students. They also graduate 35% of all Latino graduates in the U.S.
“I am incredibly proud to focus on the success and access of our Hispanic students, especially in our efforts to close the equity gap. Student success and access is the primary focus of Mesalands Community College. I am honored to be recognized by Excelencia in Education. Our focus always remains on the student,” Busch said.
