1971: Tucumcari police officers were called to investigate a burglary of a room at the Holiday Inn. A tenant from San Gabriel, California, left his room for about 30 minutes and returned to find these items missing: a wallet containing $15, credit cards, a watch valued at $100, two rings worth $25 each and a girls watch.
• Tucumcari High School elected its class officers. These seniors won the following offices: Mike Brown, president; George Geltran, vice president; Janet Shipley, secretary; and Ann McMillan, treasurer. Elected were these juniors: Martin Romero, president; Jesse Davis, vice president; Beth Martinez, secretary; and Patty Hunter, treasurer. Winning offices were these sophomores: Tim Mayberry, president; Michael Dominguez, vice president; Anthoniette Marquez, secretary; and Cecilia Lopez, treasurer.
• The Odeon Theatre in Tucumcari was screening “Love Story,” starring Ali McGraw and Ryan O’Neal. The tagline for the popular film was “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”
• C.R. Anthony Co., marking its 50th anniversary, was advertising polyester double knit dresses for $11.88 in four styles and most popular colors.
