Serving the High Plains
Quay County recently gained a new member of the state’s leadership team, as a 4-H ambassador.
Jenna Lopez of the Wranglers 4-H Club will help plan and host several 4-H events for novice, juniors and seniors during the 2021-2022 year.
Lopez was required to give a presentation, interview and financial support from the Quay County 4-H Council to be considered for the position.
Quay County also recently participated in the state conference by hosting a workshop session open to all attendees on podcasts. Last year several 4-H members worked with Family and Consumer Sciences agent Susann Mikkelson to produce their own podcast series about various 4-H topics.
This year, they provided a presentation on rabbit and poultry projects for 4-H members that were considering or already enrolled. Their content is available at the Quay County Cooperative Extension webpage under The Many Faces of 4-H at quayextension.nmsu.edu, or by calling Mikkelson at (575) 461-0562.
The state contest was formatted differently this year due to COVID-19 health regulations. Contests were divided into different days with related content material at cooperative extension offices in the central part of the state hosting the events. 4-H participants were required to travel for each day of competition.
Quay County had seven senior members that competed in Albuquerque and Socorro to participate in State 4-H Contests. Seniors are 14 to 19 years old.
Here are the results for Quay County participants:
