Serving the High Plains
The United Way of Eastern New Mexico last week gave a total of $5,000 to four nonprofit organizations in Quay County.
Erinn Burch, executive director of the organization, gave checks to Helping Hands Hospice, Eastern Plains Community Action Agency, Ministry of Hope and St. Vincent de Paul of Tucumcari.
• Helping Hands Hospice, $764;
• Ministry of Hope, $1,736
• Eastern Plaines Community Action Agency, $1,250;
• St. Vincent de Paul of Tucumcari, $1,250.
United Way of Eastern New Mexico awarded the grants Friday at Tucumcari Railroad Plaza during the Fired Up Friday event.
Burch said those organizations would receive another round of identical checks from the United Way this fall.
“Since accepting the offer in 2020 from the volunteer board of Quay County United Way to merge service areas, United Way of Eastern New Mexico has been renewing connections and learning about the needs of the community,” Burch stated.
“We hope to be able to give back (to the county) a whole lot more,” Burch added a phone interview, noting the United Way helped Quay County residents with $5,000 in rent and utility payment assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Burch said her organization also wants to add another Quay County resident to its board. Those interested should call 575-769-2103.
United Way of Eastern New Mexico focuses its charitable giving on the issues and needs of families in Curry, Roosevelt and Quay counties.
