LOGAN – A severe storm Saturday afternoon caused scattered reports of property damage and widespread flooding on roads and city streets around the village. No injuries were reported.
Logan Police Chief Rodney Paris said the storm hit about 4:30 p.m. He said at the scene about an hour later he’d received about a half-dozen reports of property damage, including a metal roof blown onto Lake Road, from straight-line winds.
Paris said the northeast side of Logan received up to four inches of pea-sized hail, exacerbating the flooding problems in the village.
At least two cars were seen in Logan stalled out in the middle of streets by floodwaters.
A text from Quay County Emergency Management warned residents that travel was discouraged in Logan because of widespread damage. The storm also caused traffic backups on U.S. 54 near the village.
Paris said the wind and hail also caused an accident in the 329-mile marker of U.S. 54. He said the storm caused only minor power outages.
A Ute Lake State Park ranger helping with traffic control on a Logan street said rangers were able to safely get boaters off the lake before the storm hit.
New Mexico State Police, Ute Lake State Park rangers, New Mexico Game and Fish officers and the Quay County fire marshal helped with post-storm assessments and traffic control.
