The Tucumcari High School boys golf team finished third of three teams but showed vast improvement during its only home meet this season May 17 at Tucumcari Municipal Golf Course.
Clovis Christian won the meet easily with a 308 score, while Portales finished second with a 360. Tucumcari scored a 489.
"My kids continue to improve," Tucumcari coach Donnie Garcia said. "We improved by 48 strokes today (as a team)."
Garcia added his two girl competitors "did good for their first tournament."
Andrew Henderson-Clark was Tucumcari's top golfer, shooting a 108 over 18 holes played. The par-36 course is 3,314 yards over nine holes.
Also competing for the Rattlers were Ayden Otero (126 score), Kaden Brown (126), Billy Otero (128) and Dominick Jasper (133).
For the girls, Alexis Miller shot a 72 and Emma Rogers 76 over nine holes.
On Thursday, the Tucumcari boys finished fourth of four teams at the Dexter Invitational at New Mexico Military Golf Course in Roswell.
Tucumcari finished with a team score of 489. Clovis finished third, Clovis Christian runner-up and Lovington took the team title with a 295.
