Logan boys, girls win titles

LOGAN - Quickly filling out to midseason form, Logan boys and girls track teams each won titles at their 12-team meet Saturday.

The meet also included teams from Tucumcari, San Jon, Roy, Mosquero, Clovis Christian, Des Moines, Elida, Dora, Melrose, Santa Rosa and Texico.

Final team scores weren't available, but Logan coach Robert Young confirmed both his squads prevailed in total points - powered mostly by the girls winning the 400, 800 and 1,600-meter relays and the boys sweeping the 400, 800, 1,600 and 1,600-meter relay races.

"Overall, we looked good," Young said. "We improved some times. We improved our (provisional) qualifying marks, which is good.

"We got a few more individuals into the meet, and we got another relay into the boys and girls. That helps."

For the girls, Logan also was powered by Sierra Horne winning the long jump, Bella Coronado winning the pole vault and Kaylee Williams winning the 100-meter dash.

For the Logan boys, Nick Brown won the 100-meter dash, Haden Judd won the 200-meter dash and 300-meter intermediate hurdles and Christian Kotara won the 400-meter dash.

For San Jon, Kirksey Smith won the javelin throw, and Chad Becerra won the long jump.

For Tucumcari, Khobie Salvador won the shot put - the second straight week he prevailed in that event.
