Serving the High Plains
The Logan boys basketball team fell 69-62 to hot-shooting Clovis Christian during both teams’ season-opening game Saturday.
Dante Sanchez scored 19 points to led the Longhorns. Kaden Riggs added 18 points and Garrett Bollinger 14 for Logan.
The Longhorns briefly had a 55-50 lead early in the fourth quarter. But the Eagles went on 9-0 run to retake the lead and never trailed again.
Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said his team’s first foe was a tough one.
“Clovis Christian can really shoot it,” he said. “We struggled to score at times, and our defensive intensity wasn’t where it needed to be. We have to come back next week focused and ready to improve.”
Tyler Lingnau and Carter Teune each scored 21 points for the Eagles.
Roy 73, San Jon 34
San Jon scored just two points in the first quarter as host Roy cruised to a 73-34 win Thursday in both team’s season openers.
Chad Becerra led the Coyotes with a team-high 14 points.
“We are very young,” San Jon coach Chad Watson said, but added he was proud of his players, who “hustled hard.”
