Missing children found safe

Two Tucumcari children who ran away from their foster home and disappeared six weeks ago were found “safe and sound,” the Tucumcari Police Department reported.

The department announced in an updated post Sunday afternoon on its Facebook page that Angelique French, 15, and Braxton French, 11, were found after an anonymous tip led officers to their location.

Tucumcari Police Deputy Chief Peter Rivera stated in an email Monday the children were found in Tucumcari, and no one was arrested. He said an investigation is ongoing.

The department stated on Facebook the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department also was contacted, as the agency has legal custody of the children.

“TPD will continue to investigate the reason Angelique and Braxton ran away. Thank you to our community for staying diligent and helping to find these two children,” the post read.

According to a Jan. 26 missing-runaways advisory from New Mexico State Police, the brother and sister ran away from their foster parent’s house on Jan. 23. The Tucumcari Police Department initially put out an alert about the runaways Jan. 24.
