The New Mexico Department of Health on Wednesday reported three confirmed cases of coronavirus in Quay County, all in the Tucumcari ZIP code.
The state also reported a record high of deaths – 40 – and hospitalizations from the disease Wednesday. New Mexico also recorded its 100,000th confirmed case of the virus.
The age breakdown of the confirmed cases in the county was one age 9 and younger, one age 30 to 39 and one age 70 to 79. Two females and one male were infected.
The total number of cases in the county since the pandemic began rose to 257, with five deaths. A total of 80 people have been deemed by the state as recovered from the virus.
The latest breakdown by ZIP code since the pandemic began is 190 in Tucumcari, 45 in Logan, seven in House, six in San Jon, four in McAlister, two in Nara Visa, two in Bard and one in Grady (part of which extends into the county).
According to the state’s COVID-19 rapid-response database, it was referred to one confirmed case each at the state’s Income Support Division in Tucumcari on Nov. 25 and at the City of Tucumcari on Sunday.
In the state, the DOH on Wednesday reported 1,549 cases. The total number in New Mexico since the pandemic began rose to nearly 101,000.
A total of 40 deaths were reported Wednesday in the state, raising the total to more than 1,600.
A record total of 940 people in the state were hospitalized with the disease Wednesday, an increase of more than 30 from the previous day.
The Amarillo metro area continued to see elevated cases of COVID-19, with more than 7,500 active cases Wednesday and a hospitalization rate of 37%.
In the U.S., more than 13.8 million confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported through Wednesday since the pandemic began, with more than 272,000 deaths.
