15 new coronavirus cases reported Saturday in county

The New Mexico Department of Health on Saturday reported a record-breaking 15 new cases of coronavirus in Quay County.

The county’s total broke the previous mark of nine, set Friday. It was the third consecutive day the county had broken or tied its record.

A total of 86 cases have been reported in the county in November alone.

Three deaths have occurred in Quay County since the pandemic began, including one reported Wednesday.

The latest cases in the county were 10 in the Tucumcari ZIP code, four in the Logan ZIP code and the first in the Nara Visa ZIP code, according to the state Department of Health website.

The age breakdown was one under age 10, four age 10 to 19, three age 20 to 29, one age 30 to 39, two age 40 to 49, three age 50 to 59 and one age 60 to 69.

The total number of cases in the county since the pandemic began rose to 193. A total of 76 people have been deemed as recovered from the virus.

The breakdown by ZIP code since the pandemic began is 134 in Tucumcari, 44 in Logan, five in San Jon, four in House, four in McAlister, one in Nara Visa and one in Grady (part of which extends into the county).

According to the state’s COVID-19 rapid-response database, referrals were sent Friday regarding one confirmed case each at McDonald’s and Trigg Memorial Hospital, both in Tucumcari. Entities must undertake health protocols when they land on the list.

Quay County Clerk Ellen White also stated in a social-media post the county courthouse will be closed Monday through Friday because of a COVID-19 exposure there, though a confirmed case has not yet been confirmed.

In the state, the DOH on Saturday reported 2,353 cases. The total number since the pandemic began surpassed 79,000.

A total of 647 cases were reported Saturday in Bernalillo County, with 291 in Dona Ana County.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 stood at a record level of 825 on Saturday.

A total of 25 deaths were reported Saturday in New Mexico, bringing the total to 1,350.

In the U.S., more than 12 million confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported through Saturday since the pandemic began, with more than 255,000 deaths.
