Free drive-through flu shots to be offered

Free drive-through flu shots will be offered the morning of Oct. 3 in Tucumcari and Logan.

The Tucumcari drive-through immunization clinic will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Quay County fairgrounds at 2000 Camino de Coronado Road. Participants should enter through the west gate and will exit through the north gate near the Tucumcari Convention Center.

The Logan drive-through clinic will be from 8 a.m. to noon at PMG Family Medicine at 600 Gallegos St.

Presbyterian Health Services, which is administering the shots, said participants should plan on spending at least 30 minutes or more their cars. The vaccine will be given inside their vehicle.

Only four adults per vehicle will be accepted, or one person per window that rolls down. Vehicles must be standard height so a nurse can reach the window.

Masks are required and should cover the mouth and nose at all times. Valved masks, neck gaiters and bandanas aren’t recommended.

Participants should wear a short-sleeve shirt or top so a nurse can more easily access the arm.

The vaccine will be given only to adults age 18 years old and older.

The 2020 flu vaccine protects against predicted strains of seasonal influenza that likely will be seen in North America. The flu vaccine does not protect against COVID-19, but health officials are recommending it during the pandemic.
