Two COVID-19 cases reported Friday in Quay County

The New Mexico Department of Health on Friday confirmed two new cases of coronavirus in Quay County, bringing the county's total to 60 since the pandemic began.

The latest cases were one woman and one man. One was in the Logan ZIP code, and the other was in Tucumcari. The age breakdowns of the latest cases are age 40 to 49 and age 80 to 89.

Logan has seen 22 confirmed cases in 10 days, raising its total to 26 since the pandemic began. Outbreaks prompted a delay in the start of classes at Logan Municipal Schools until after Labor Day and the closure of Ute Lake State Park through Aug. 25.

Since the pandemic began, 32 cases have been reported in Tucumcari, 26 in Logan and four in San Jon.

A total of 20 people in the county have been designated as recovered from the disease, with one resident who died in April of the disease in Florida.

A total of 1,517 people in the county have been tested for COVID-19.

Statewide, a total of 150 cases were reported Friday. The state's seven-day average stood at 134, which still was below the gating criteria of 168. A total of 24,095 in the state have been confirmed with the virus.

Five deaths in the state were reported Friday, bringing the total to 739.

A total of 65 people in New Mexico are hospitalized with COVID-19, a number that has been trending downward for several weeks. A total of 11,312 have been deemed to have recovered from the disease.

In the U.S., more than 5.6 million people have been confirmed with the virus, with more than 175,000 deaths through Friday afternoon.
