Three more cases reported in Logan on Friday

The New Mexico Department of Health on Friday reported three more confirmed cases of coronavirus in Quay County, all in the Logan ZIP code.

Logan has seen nine confirmed cases in the last three days.

Ute Lake State Park in Logan has remained closed since Wednesday because workers there showed coronavirus-like symptoms and were awaiting test results. Logan Municipal Schools announced Thursday it likely would delay the school year because one staff member tested positive for COVID-19 and two others showed symptoms of the disease. The school board will hold a special meeting Sunday night to decide the issue.

According to the DOH website, the latest cases are two males and one female. Two were age 80 to 89; one was age 70 to 79.

The total number of cases in the county is 28 in the Tucumcari ZIP code, 12 in the Logan ZIP code, and four in the San Jon ZIP code.

The total number of cases in the county grew to 44 since the pandemic began.

Twelve in the county have been deemed to have recovered from the disease, with one death reported in April from a resident who contracted the virus in Florida.

A total of 1,385 people have been tested for the virus in Quay County.

Statewide, the total number of cases Friday was 175. New Mexico has recorded more than 23,160 cases since the pandemic began.

Six deaths were reported statewide Friday, bringing the total to 703 in the state.

A total of 10,182 people in New Mexico have been deemed as recovered from the virus. A total of 125 people remain hospitalized with the disease.

East of Tucumcari, Amarillo reported 514 active cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, a drop of about 300 in one day.

In the U.S., nearly 5.3 million people have been confirmed with the virus, with more than 168,000 deaths as of Friday afternoon.
