New confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported Sunday and Monday in Quay County by the state’s Department of Health, bringing the total to 33 since the pandemic began.
Sunday's case was the first confirmed case in the county in a week after recording 24 cases in 20 days. The total number of cases in Quay County in early July stood at six.
No rapid response referrals to COVID-19 cases with employees of businesses or entities in Quay County have occurred since July 24. A total of five referrals occurred during the month.
According to the agency’s website, the case Sunday was a male age 70 to 79. Monday's was a male age 30 to 39. Both were in the Tucumcari ZIP code.
A total of five county residents have recovered from the virus. One Quay County resident died of the disease in Florida in April.
A total of 1,248 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the county through Monday. The total number of tests on July 3 was 679.
The total number of cases Monday in New Mexico was 117, bringing the total to more than 21,000. The state said the total Monday was incomplete due to technical difficulties with the reporting system.
One death was recorded Monday, bringing the total to 655.
A total of 8,463 have been designated as recovered from the virus by the DOH. A total of 131 remain hospitalized, a number that has trended downward in recent weeks.
Bernalillo County had the most cases, with more than 4,800.
To the east of Quay County, the Amarillo Public Health Department reported more than 800 active cases in that metro area Monday.
In the U.S., more than 4.6 million confirmed coronavirus cases had been reported as of Monday afternoon, with more than 155,000 deaths.
