A confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported Sunday in Quay County by the state’s Department of Health, bringing the total to 32 since the pandemic began.
It was the first confirmed case in the county in a week. After previously recording 24 cases in 20 days, the latest gap between cases was a sign that perhaps the spread of the disease was slowing in the region.
No rapid response referrals to COVID-19 cases in employees of businesses or entities in Quay County have occurred since July 24. A total of five referrals occurred during the month.
According to the agency’s website, the latest case is a male age 70 to 79 in the Tucumcari ZIP code.
A total of four county residents have recovered from the virus. One Quay County resident died of the disease in Florida in April.
A total of 1,247 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the county.
The total number of cases Sunday in New Mexico was 226, bringing the total to more than 21,000. The state has seen more than 200 cases daily for more than a month.
Three deaths were recorded, bringing the total to 654.
A total of 8,343 have been designated as recovered from the virus by the DOH. A total of 127 remain hospitalized, a number that has trended downward in recent weeks.
To the east of Quay County, the Amarillo Public Health Department reported nearly 800 active cases in that metro area as of Friday.
In the U.S., more than 4.6 million confirmed coronavirus cases had been reported as of Sunday afternoon, with more than 154,000 deaths.
