Serving the High Plains
A winter storm last week prompted a couple of school closings and delays with other classes, but the meager accumulations of snow proved to be more of an inconvenience than a major problem.
About two inches total fell in Tucumcari from Monday night through early Wednesday. Spotters for the National Weather Service reported four inches about three miles east-northeast of Tucumcari, 2.5 inches at Conchas Dam and 1 inch three miles west of Logan.
Spotters reported up to nine inches of snow in the Sandia Mountains east of Albuquerque.
School districts in House and San Jon closed Feb. 11 because of slick roads from overnight snow. Tucumcari schools, the city of Tucumcari and Mesalands Community College opened that day after a two-hour delay. Logan Municipal Schools opened as usual.
House Municipal Schools also issued a two-hour delay Wednesday morning because of overnight snow.
Tucumcari also rescheduled Feb. 11 boys and girls district basketball games against Dexter to Wednesday.
With motorists perhaps driving more cautiously because of ample warning about the storm, the Tucumcari-Quay Regional Emergency Communications Center reported only a few accidents or motorist assists on area highways.
