1970: Workers from Currell Lumber Co. were installing new exterior decorative panels during construction of Tucumcari’s new post office at First and Aber streets.

• Josephine Kirkpatrick, a Tucumcari native, filed for her candidacy for District I on the Quay County Commission. She was running on the Democratic ticket.

• Tucumcari Television Co., noting the 21st anniversary of the cable industry, was offering one month’s service for 21 cents with its Installation Plus package.

• The Tucumcari High School boys basketball team was ranked 10th in the latest United Press International state poll of AAA teams. West Las Vegas was ranked No. 1.

• The Odeon Theater, trumping that “James Bond is back,” was screening “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” It starred George Lazenby as Agent 007.
