Logan opens district with victory over Clovis Christian

The Logan boys basketball squad opened its district schedule with an 84-63 victory Saturday at Clovis Christian.

The Longhorns raced to a 30-9 lead in the first quarter to take control.

Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said his team played well offensively.

“(We) still need to be better throughout the entire game defensively, and we missed too many free throws,” he said.

Dante Sanchez scored 38 points to lead the Longhorns (11-6). Wyatt Wright added 12 points.

Clovis Christian fell to 6-10.

Logan hosts a key district matchup Thursday against No. 1-ranked Melrose (14-1), the defending Class 1A champion.

Logan 56, Dora 18

The Longhorns outscored the Coyotes 43-10 in the second and third quarters to cruise to a 56-18 win Thursday at Dora.

Sanchez scored 21 points to lead Logan, and Garrett Bollinger added 12.

“We had a slow start in the first quarter, but then we got rolling,” Griffiths said. “(We) shot the ball as a team really well and locked in defensively.”

Dora fell to 6-8.

Grady/San Jon 57, Dora 51

Tobe Slater and Isaiah Mitchell each scored 15 points to lead Grady/San Jon to a 57-51 win Jan. 14 over visiting Dora.

Dustin Bryant added 13 points for the Bronchos.

“The difference was we did a good job contesting shooters on the defensive end and finding ways to get layups on the offensive end,” Grady/San Jon coach Jonathan Langan said.
