The board of trustees for San Jon Municipal Schools unanimously gave a one-year contract extension to its superintendent during its Jan. 13 meeting.
Superintendent Janet Gladu’s contract now expires June 30, 2022.
Gladu said during a telephone interview last week her future salary will be set by the board once the New Mexico Legislature enacts its education budget in the upcoming session. She is paid $111,300 a year.
Gladu said the board approved her extension after about a 30-minute executive session.
She said she appreciated the board’s support.
“My family and I love San Jon and the community,” she said, “and we’re excited for the continuation.”
Gladu was hired as the district’s superintendent in mid-2018 after leading a school district in western Illinois. Gladu was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Utah.
School superintendents in Quay County appear to have job security for at least the next 18 months:
• House superintendent Bonnie Lightfoot’s contract was extended in December to June 30, 2022. She is paid $101,600 a year.
• Tucumcari superintendent Aaron McKinney’s contract was extended in August to June 30, 2022. He is paid $120,428 a year.
• Logan superintendent Dennis Roch’s contract was extended in July to June 30, 2021. He is paid $100,800 a year.
