After its 50-0 district victory Friday night over Gateway Christian to conclude the regular season, Logan learned Saturday it would go to Mountainair during the opening round of the eight-man football playoffs.
The Longhorns’ playoff game would be at 7 p.m. Friday at Mountainair.
Logan (5-4), a No. 5 seed, lost 40-14 to fourth-seeded Mountainair (5-3) during the season-opening game for both teams Aug. 23.
Logan coach Dwayne Roberts is familiar with Mountainair another way — he got his start as a coach there, and his brother Sheldon is an assistant coach with the Mustangs program.
The winner of that game faces the winner of the game between top-seeded Tatum against eighth-seeded Ramah (6-3) on Nov. 8 or 9. Logan fell to Tatum, a district foe, by a 50-0 score on Oct. 18.
On Friday, the Longhorns surged to a 44-0 lead over Gateway Christian by halftime and ended the contest in the third quarter via mercy rule with another touchdown.
Logan finished third in District 3 with a 3-2 mark, finishing behind Melrose (8-1, 4-1) and district champion Tatum (8-1, 5-0).
Gateway Christian, which fell to 2-6 and 1-4 in the district, did not qualify for the playoffs.
