1969: The Future Homemakers of America recently held its District IX Convention at San Jon High School. A total of 160 members and advisers from Tucumcari, San Jon, Logan, Grady, Fort Sumner, Melrose and Santa Rosa attended. These officers were elected: president, Judy Martinez of Tucumcari; vice president, Bobby Thrasher, San Jon; treasurer, Debby Widner, Melrose; secretary, Lydia Lopez, Santa Rosa; reporter, Wanda Horton, Tucumcari junior high; historian, Lavonda Nutt, Fort Sumner; parliamentarian, Vickie Helker, Grady; and vice president of recreation, Kathy Feerer, Logan.

• Gibson’s Discount Center of Tucumcari advertised their Rattler Players of the Week from football: right guard Ronnie Greer, halfback Larry Bush and offensive guard Terry Owings.

• The Odeon Theater in Tucumcari advertised “the strangest trio to ever track a killer.” The movie was “True Grit,” starring John Wayne, Glen Campbell and Kim Darby. The Canal Drive-In advertised Thursday as Spanish Night with a double feature — “El Ojo de Vidrio” and “En la Mitad del Mundo.”
