1969: The newspaper published several photographs of workers building a new culvert under a section of Interstate 40 west of Tucumcari. The work was expected to take about 18 months.

• A Tucumcari resident reported the Richard East family lives across South Sixth Street from the Melvin West family. “This just goes to prove that East is East and West is West,” the newspaper observed.

• The Odeon Theatre in Tucumcari was screening a new western, “The Good Guys and the Bad Guys,” starring Robert Mitchum and George Kennedy. The film was shot in New Mexico, and Gov. David F. Cargo reportedly had a small acting role in the movie. Admission was $1.25 for adults, $1 for students and 50 cents for children.
