San Jon/Grady held off host New Mexico School for the Deaf in a 76-74 shootout Saturday in six-man football action at Santa Fe.
The visiting Coyotes, which improved to 2-2, fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter but rallied with three unanswered touchdowns and led 29-20 at halftime.
San Jon led the rest of the way, except for a brief stretch in the third quarter when they fell behind 34-29. The Coyotes sealed the game with a touchdown with three minutes left for a 76-67 lead.
The game was a last-minute fill-in for the Coyotes’ schedule after Roy-Mosquero canceled its season because of too few players.
The Coyotes play at No. 3-ranked Springer at 7 p.m. Friday in a district matchup. Springer defeated Animus 33-20 on Friday to improve to 5-0.
