1969: Mrs. Andy (Dupie) Mitchell of Forrest was notified by mail she would receive a $4,000 check from a Readers Digest contest. She didn’t initially believe it, even after a Readers Digest representative called her, but she received the check yesterday.
• Southwest Motors at 221 W. Aber St. in Tucumcari advertised new and arriving car models, including the 1970 Mercury Cyclone GT, 1970 Mercury Cougar XR-7, 1970 Marquis Brougham, 1970 Ford LTD and a 1970 Mustang Mach 1. The dealership also was going to display a new Lincoln Continental, showing off its first redesign since 1961.
• The Odeon Theatre was screening a Walt Disney Productions double feature — “Peter Pan” and “The Legend of the Boy and the Eagle.”
