4-H results

Thirty Quay County 4-H members traveled to Fort Sumner to participate in three days of Southeast District 4-H competitions hosted by the De Baca County 4-H program and attended by nine counties. Novice 4-H members are 9 to 11 years old, and Juniors are 12 to 13.

Here are the Quay County 4-H winners:

Archery

Shooting a Barebow Recurve — Lanie Hammer finished second high individual in the Junior competition. Carter Smith finished fourth high individual in the Novice competition.

Shooting Barebow Compound bows — The Quay County Novice team finished second. Members were Aimee Ross, Patric Szaloy and Samanntha Lowe. Ross finished first high individual.

Shooting a compound bow with sights, the Quay County Junior team finished second. Members were Antonio Gonzales, MiKayla Klinger, July Lafferty and Michael Oglesby.

Rifle

The Junior Rifle team finished second with members Greyson Bollinger, MiKayla Klinger, Cutter Hastie and Payson Nials. Bollinger was first high individual, and Hastie was second high individual.

Shotgun

Both of Quay County’s Junior Shotgun teams finished in the top five. Team 1 was second with members Tylee Hill, Greyson Bollinger, Antonio Gonzales and Ace Whitson. Team 2 was fifth with members Kirksey Smith, Cutter Hastie and Paxton Smith. Bollinger was third high individual in shotgun.

Agronomy

Quay County’s Novice team finished second with members Bryson Klinger, Carter Smith and Samanntha Lowe. Lowe was second high individual, and Klinger was third high individual.

The Junior team also finished second with members Ashton Smith, MiKayla Klinger and Paxton Smith. Ashton Smith was third high individual, and Paxton Smith was fourth high individual.

Consumer Decision Making

The Junior team finished second with members Lanie Hammer, ShaKayla Crank and Samanntha Lowe. Crank was fourth high individual, and Lowe was fifth high individual.

Entomology

The Junior team finished first with members Payson Nials, Gavin Tompkins and ShaKayla Crank. Tompkins finished fourth high individual.

FCS Bowl

The Novice team of Aimee Ross, Lucia Benavidez and Patric Szaloy finished first.

The Junior team of MiKayla Klinger, Kirksey Smith, Gavin Tompkins and Lanie Hammer finished third.

FCS Skill-a-thon

The Novice team of Aimee Ross, Carter Smith, Brandy Smith and Lucia Benavidez finished first. Ross was first high individual, and Brandy Smith was second high individual.

The Junior team of Ashton Smith, Brookel Smith, ShaKayla Crank and Lanie Hammer finished second. Ashton Smith was second high individual.

Horticulture

The Novice team of Aimee Ross, Brandy Smith and Samanntha Lowe finished fifth.

The Junior team, Quay 1, finished third with members MiKayla Klinger, Ashton Smith and Brookel Smith. Klinger finished fourth high individual.

The Junior team, Quay 2, finished fifth with members Tylee Hill, Gavin Tompkins and ShaKayla Crank.

Livestock

Skill-a-thon

The Junior team finished fourth with members Ashton Smith, Greyson Bollinger, Kirksey Smith and Payson Nials.

Meats

Novice Carter Smith was third high individual.

Parliamentary Procedure

The first-place Junior team members were MiKayla Klinger, Ashton Smith, July Lafferty, Greyson Bollinger, Kirksey Smith and Payson Nials.

Poetry

Lucia Benavidez was fifth high with her Novice poem, and MiKayla Klinger was third high with her Junior poem.

Public Speaking

MiKayla Klinger was first high Junior, and Gavin Tompkins was second high Junior with their speeches.

Wildlife

The Novice team finished fourth with members Paxton Smith, Lucia Benavidez, Patric Szaloy and Carter Smith.

The Junior team finished fifth with members MiKayla Klinger, July Lafferty, Lanie Hammer and ShaKayla Crank.

Fashion Revue

Samanntha Lowe finished fourth with Novice Sewing I Super Simple Skirt.

Lucia Benavidez finished fourth with Novice Sewing II Pants.

Aimee Ross finished fifth with Novice Sewing II Pants.

Cera Lowe finished fifth with her Novice Sewing I Tote Bag.

Ashton Smith finished first with Junior Mix & Match Pajamas.

MiKayla Klinger finished second with Junior Creative Touches Shirt.
