A series of low-cost rabies vaccination clinics will be held Saturday across Quay County.
Rabies shots for dogs and cats at these clinics will be $10 each. Other types of vaccinations will be available at additional cost.
Organizers are asking pet owners to keep their dogs on a leash and cats in a pet carrier during the clinics.
The clinics will be in these locations Saturday:
• In Tucumcari at the city warehouse at 302 W. Center St. from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. City licenses also will be available.
• In Logan at the city warehouse at 203 N. First St. from 1 to 3 p.m. City licenses also will be available.
• In San Jon at the old fire station at Fifth and Elm streets from 4 to 5 p.m. City licenses also will be available.
• In Nara Visa at the fire station on U.S. 54 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Central time.
The New Mexico Department of Health recently confirmed five skunks infected with rabies were found in Quay, Curry, De Baca and Colfax counties. The agency is urging pet and livestock owners to vaccinate their animals.
The health department did not disclose where in Quay County the rabid skunk or skunks were found.
