1969: A school bond election scheduled for May 20 will include the construction of a new junior-high library in Tucumcari. The current library has only enough space to hold one class at a time. Meanwhile, the number of volumes the library holds has risen from 1,700 to 7,000, and the number of films has increased from 75 to 300.

• The Rev. O.D. Rowell of Odessa, Texas, recently accepted a position as minister of Immanuel Baptist Church in Tucumcari.

• Workers poured concrete to build a new loading ramp on the south side of Ute Lake State Park near Logan. The new ramp is located near the Uteco docks.

• The Odeon Theatre in Tucumcari was screening a double feature of two Clint Eastwood westerns — “A Fistful of Dollars” and “For a Few Dollars More.” The Canal Drive-In on Tucumcari’s west side was screening Steve McQueen’s “Bullitt” and Paul Newman’s “Cool Hand Luke.”
