Rattlers eighth at meet

Tucumcari’s Seth Martinez suffered his first loss of the season in the 110-meter hurdles race during the 14-team Wildcat Relays on Thursday in Clovis.

Hope Christian’s Vince Quezada finished the race in 15.23 seconds, edging two-time state champion Martinez by two-tenths of a second.

Martinez, however, continued to prevail in the 300-meter hurdles, winning the race in 0:40.59.

The Tucumcari boys finished eighth at the meet with 20 points. Clovis won easily with 145 points, and Carlsbad finished runner-up with 65 ? points. Rounding out the standings were Hope Christian 47, Portales 42 ?, Hobbs 36, Cibola 29, Lovington 29, Manzano 18, Roswell 10, Goddard 5, Clayton 3, Clovis Christian 3, and the Clovis “B” team 1.

Secilee Skinner was the top competitor for the Tucumcari girls, finishing third in the shot put with an effort of 35 feet, 5 inches. Rio Rancho’s Cody Cottle won the event at 36-6, and Clovis’ Kianna Chappel was second at 35-8 ?.

The Tucumcari girls finished 13th as a team with 4 points. Clovis won with 101 points, with Cleveland close behind with 94. Rounding out the rest were Hope Christian 61, Carlsbad 43, Rio Rancho 37 ?, Cibola 31, Roswell 17, Lovington 14, Manzano 14, Goddard 13, Portales 12, Hobbs 11 ? and Clovis “B” team 1.

Logan teams win EPAC meet

The Logan boys and girls teams each took home titles Thursday during the 11-team EPAC meet at Portales.

The Longhorns, with 93 points, edged Fort Sumner’s 91. Rounding out the rest of the team standings were Texico 81, Melrose 60, San Jon 25 ?, Tatum 21, House 15, Dora 13, Floyd 9 1/2, Elida 9 and Grady 5.

First-place winners for Logan were Dyson Day in the 100-meter dash (0:11.34) and long jump (20-6), Jantzen Paris in the 200 (0:23.94) and 400 (0:51.94), and Jordan Evans in the triple jump (40-1/2). Logan also won the 800-meter relay (1:36.64) and 1,600 relay (3:42.24).

For San Jon, Dustin Bryant finished second in the high jump (5-10) and long jump (20-1/2).

For House, Dawson Moon was second in the 1,600-meter run (5:44.76) and 2-mile run (12:39.82).

The Logan girls easily won the team standings with 111 points. Rounding out the rest were Fort Sumner 73 1/2, Melrose 71, Tatum 52, Dora 36, Texico 25, Floyd 16 ?, Elida 6, Grady 4 and San Jon 4.

Individual winners for the Lady Longhorns were Destiney Cleveland in the 100-meter dash (0:13.44), Cassidy Cordova in the long jump (15-10), Jordan Hines in the high jump (5-0), Jodi Vance in the pole vault (7-0), and Harlie Roach in the discus (99-1 1/2). Logan also won the 400-meter relay (0:53.14), 800 relay (1:53.84), 1,600 relay (4:31.14) and 1,600 sprint medley (4:44.24).
