Tucumcari's Seth Martinez won another title in the 110-meter high hurdles race during the 14-team George Love Relays Friday in Portales.
Martinez, a two-time state champion, finished the race in 15.8 seconds. The senior, however, declined to compete that day in the 300-meter hurdles. Tucumcari coach Wayne Ferguson said Martinez was “a little sore.”
Gerardo Villa-Vargas finished second in the 400-meter dash for the Rattlers in a time of 0:52.15. Ethan Culliver of Clovis nipped him by four-hundredths of a second.
Tucumcari's 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams of Martinez, Villa-Vargas, Casey Carter and Robbie Hartmann finished sixth in 0:45.25 and 1:34.59 respectively.
The Tucumcari boys finished ninth in the meet with 15 points. Clovis easily captured the title with 136 points.
In girls action, Secilee Skinner finished second in the shot put with a distance of 32 feet, 9 inches. Kianna Chappell of Clovis won the title with a 34-9 effort.
The Tucumcari girls finished 13th in the meet with five points. Clovis easily won the girls crown with 12.5 points.
