Five other students at Tucumcari school district recently advanced to national finals from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America state competition in Albuquerque.
High-school students Natalie Hayes and Kelli Lamm and middle-schoolers Sariah Mardo, Lacey Galvan and Alexandra Rosas at state competition each qualified for FCCLA nationals in Anaheim, California, on June 30 to July 4.
Hayes received a gold-medal score and second place in Nutrition and Wellness. Lamm received a silver-medal score and finished first in Fashion Construction.
Other high-schoolers at state competition were Martin Reyes and Steven Salas in Interior Design, Gracie Otero in Chapter Service Portfolio, and Destiny Vigil and Anna Simpson in Thematic Promotions.
The Quay County Sun previously reported freshman Elena Gutierrez had qualified for nationals in Sports Nutrition.
In middle school, Mardo and Galvan each earned a gold medal and first place in the Chapter in Review Portfolio. They also competed in Thematic Promotions. Rosas earned a gold medal and first place in Illustrated Talk. Rosas also competed in Knife Skills.
Other Tucumcari middle-schoolers competing at state were Julian Pena in Pastry Arts-Decorated Cake, Brittany Moya and Blanca Gallegos in Knife Skills, Aleeja Salvado and Taylor Hinders in Intermediate Child Care, Kaitlyn Benavidez, Estella Cordova and Haisley Huffman in Fashion Merchandising, and Brittany Moya in Illustrated Talk.
