Serving the High Plains
Now is a good time to get out and exercise before it becomes too hot. To help with motivation, the Nutrition and Fitness Committee of the Quay County Health Council and the Quay County Extension Service are hosting their third annual step challenge.
Taking part in the step challenge is easy. Go to https://www.ChallengeRunner.com/login/challenge/bb93y7-1hz7. Enter an email and create a password. On the screen, it will tell how many days until the challenge begins. Each individual who participates will need his or her own email address. There are two buttons: One is to select a team, and the other is to link a cellphone fitness app or wearable tracker.
Fitness trackers or apps compatible with the program include Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin, Google Fit, Jawbone, Misfit, Nikia and Samsung Health. All users are asked to link a fitness tracker. This will avoid problems with logging in data.
Throughout the challenge, you can check in on progress. You can post points to Facebook with a click of the button. One can post progress reports on social-media platforms with the hashtags #QCSpringStep and #QuayCountyOnTheMove.
For those who do not have a fitness tracker, consider joining the Move Your Way campaign. No technology is needed for that. Check with a senior center or the Extension Office.
The challenge begins April 14 and ends May 25. For help, contact Brenda Bishop by emailing [email protected] or calling the Extension Office at 461-0562.
