1969: The annual Kiwanis Club Grand Ole Opry will feature Art Davis and his wife, Mary, on Friday. Davis is a former screen star, having made his start in the movies as a stuntman for westerns and graduating to a full-fledged cowboy star. He has appeared with other such stars as Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. His band, the Rhythm Riders, have appeared in many clubs and shows throughout the nation. Patti Page began her singing career on a country-and-western music show with Davis and his Rhythm Riders in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

• A 13-year-old Tucumcari girl suffered a broken leg and bruises indirectly because of a snowball fight. She was crossing the driveway of the high school when a 16-year-old was turning his pickup truck into the driveway. A snowball hit the driver, and he was unable to stop his truck in time, hitting the girl. The girl was listed in fair condition at a hospital.

• The 3-year-old and 7-year-old daughters of Candy Garcia built a Mexican snowman at their home at 1323 S. Second St. in Tucumcari. The city received three inches of snow the day before.
