The Melrose girls basketball team captured the regular-season district title Saturday with a 64-47 victory over Logan.
Because both teams had a 7-1 record in Class 1A, District 6, they were forced to play a tiebreaking game in a neutral location in Tucumcari.
Harlie Roach led the Lady Longhorns, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A by MaxPreps.com, with 15 points and Makenna Brewer added 10 as they fell to 21-5.
Melrose, ranked No. 2, improved to 20-6 overall.
In this week’s district tournament, Clovis Christian was scheduled to play at Grady at 5 p.m. Monday. No score was available before deadline. The winner of that game was scheduled to play No. 3 seed Fort Sumner at 6 p.m. Tuesday. No. 2 seed Logan will host the winner of that game at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The winner of that game plays at Melrose for the district title at 6 p.m. Friday.
Logan 67, Grady 26
Harlie Roach scored 21 points to power Logan to a 67-26 district victory over visiting Grady/San Jon/House on Thursday.
The Lady Longhorns, winners of six in a row, improved to 21-4 overall and 7-1 in Class 1A, District 6, forcing a tiebreaking game against Melrose (19-6, 7-1) for the regular-season district title.
Kassie Foote added 15 points for Logan.
The Lady Bronchos fell to 4-20, 1-7.
