Logan football coach turns in resignation

Chase Disney, coach of Logan High School’s eight-man football team for one season, recently gave his resignation to the school district so he can take a job as a sports director for a city in his native Oklahoma.

Last season, Disney led the Longhorns to a 5-7 record and 2-3 in district competition in his first year there. Logan defeated Ramah 52-0 in the first round of the eight-man football playoffs and lost to Mountainair 60-12 in the quarterfinals.

Disney said in a phone interview Friday he gave his resignation as coach and history and social-studies teacher in the district on Jan. 28; he cited “family reasons.” His last day there will be Feb. 28.

“God’s telling me to go somewhere else,” he added.

Logan Schools Superintendent Dennis Roch refused to comment on Disney’s resignation, citing personnel matters. He confirmed the district is advertising to hire a new football coach and social-studies teacher.

Disney will become sports director for the city of Ponca City, Oklahoma, not far from his hometown of Stillwater, on March 1.

“I’m going to miss the kids at Logan,” he said. “They have great hopes and dreams, and I hope they get to them.”
