The Logan girls basketball team not only lost a key district game Thursday, but it may have lost one of its best players for the rest of the season.
The Lady Longhorns, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A by MaxPreps.com before the game, lost 48-45 at Melrose, and junior power forward Karli Webb, one of Logan’s top scorers, went down with a knee injury after scoring a team-high 12 points.
Logan coach Glynna Strand said it appeared to be an anterior cruciate ligament injury that would require season-ending surgery and months of rehabilitation.
Logan fell to 1-1 in district play.
Melrose, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A before the game, improved to 12-5 and 2-0 in the district.
Clayton 44, Logan 37
Clayton, trailing 24-19 at halftime, outscored the Lady Longhorns 18-6 in the third quarter to salt away a 44-37 victory Saturday.
Makenna Brewer scored 13 points to led the Lady Longhorns, who fell to 15-4 overall.
Clayton improved to 11-6.
Grady/San Jon/House 49, Clovis Christian 41
Teryn Foote scored 15 points to guide the Lady Bronchos to a 49-41 district victory over visiting Clovis Christian on Thursday.
The Lady Bronchos led 28-11 at halftime and repelled the Eagles’ comeback bid in the second half.
Divinity Archuleta added 12 points for Grady/San Jon/House.
Clovis Christian fell to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in the district.
Fort Sumner 49, Grady 22
The Vixens jumped out to a 24-8 lead in the first half en route to 49-22 district victory Saturday over visiting Grady/San Jon/House.
Archuleta led the Lady Bronchos (3-14, 1-1) with eight points.
Fort Sumner improved to 9-9, 2-1.
