Donut shop closes abruptly

The Tucumcari Donuts shop abruptly closed after New Year’s Day.

The shop at 600 E. Tucumcari Blvd. closed Jan. 2, according to a clerk at Best Hardware across the road.

A phone number listed for Tucumcari Donuts was disconnected.

According to a short story last week in The Communicator newspaper in Santa Rosa, owner/operator Alex Yun and his brother, John Naang, moved from Tucumcari to Santa Rosa to open the Blue Hole Donut Shoppe in downtown Santa Rosa.

No phone was listed for Blue Hole Donut Shoppe. Yun told a Communicator reporter his phone had been stolen.

Quay County assessor records show the Tucumcari Donuts building was owned by M.R. Hicklin but was under contract to be bought by Frin Khav of Friona, Texas, in 2016. No phone number for a Frin Khav exists in Texas, according to directory assistance.

A Quay County Sun reporter heard a report before Christmas that Tucumcari Donuts soon would close. But when a reporter asked a clerk there about it, he denied it and said the business would remain open indefinitely.

The shop opened in February 2017 and has closed at least one other time since then.
